GILBERT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - A veteran in Gilbert found a note and token of appreciation on the windshield of his truck that moved him to tears Sunday.
Mike Sandoval spent 15 years in the Marines. He was stationed in Phoenix and deployed once to Iraq in 2003.
“I have a little saying that says, 'Marines don’t suffer from insanity. We enjoy every minute,'” Sandoval said. “That was me.”
He’s a Marine to the core and shows signs of his service everywhere he can.
“I got this truck and it’s got USMC mud flaps, and an eagle, globe and anchor on the back,” Sandoval explained.
Admittedly, he was having a rough week. After getting his hair cut at Sports Clips near Val Vista Drive and Baseline Road, he was surprised to find a note on the windshield his lifted pickup truck.
“I’m just like, ‘Oh gosh, here we go. Somebody complaining about my driving right,'” Sandoval said with a laugh.
However, the words written in blue ink were to thank him.
“It says, 'Dear USMC, thank you so much for your service,'” Sandoval read with a smile. “Jesus loves you so much and is proud of you.”
He has no clue who left the note, but in the middle of the page, the person wrote out a verse from the Bible.
“John 3:16,” Sandoval said. “At the very end, it says, 'God bless you for King, Jesus and country北京福彩官网. A Starbucks on me,' and they gave me five bucks.”
When he first read the words written, Sandoval said his eyes swelled with tears.
"One of the things that I always say is that if you want to thank a veteran be somebody worth fighting for,” said Sandoval. ”Whoever left that I want to tell them that they are worth fighting for, and thank you,”
Sandoval said he hasn’t spent the $5. He plans on continuing the cycle of kindness to another veteran in the community. Sandoval owns remodeling.
"One of our missions here as we left to put veterans first," said Sandoval. "I have already done to veteran giveaways"
